US Army Chinook, Afghanistan
The White House provided few details about the secretive mission and Byers’s role in it, other than to praise his “courageous actions while serving as part of a team that rescued an American civilian being held hostage in Afghanistan.”
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Byers joined the Navy in 1998 and has completed seven overseas combat tours. He has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal five times, the Purple Heart twice and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Edward Byers will receive the nation’s highest military honor in a White House ceremony on Feb. 29. He is the eleventh living service member to be awarded the medal for actions in Afghanistan.
Byers, a member of the elite SEAL Team Six, participated in a special forces operation that led to the rescue of an American doctor, Dr. Dilip Joseph, who had been kidnapped by the Taliban for ransom, according to USA Today.

‘Day One’ is inspired by a Hughes’ experiences in Afghanistan. The film depicts a new translator’s first day accompanying a U.S. Army unit on patrol. As she quickly discovers, her job will bring up brutal complexities as gender and religious barriers emerge with lives hanging in the balance.

This is a perjoritive term used by soldiers that spend a lot of time outside the wire being shot at and dodging road-side bombs, for those soldiers that live a safer and more comfortable life.
The damn fobbits all seem to be getting the new armor before we do, and they don’t even need it.

DID YOU SEE HIM?
He’s so good that it’s almost impossible to spot him, even when he’s directly in front of the camera.
Effective camouflage can be the difference between life and death in a combat situation. And for US Marine Brent Downing, camouflage is also an art. An expert in camouflage techniques, Downing runs a YouTube segment called the “Camouflage Effectiveness Series” in which he documents techniques from militaries around the world.
In military aviation, a sortie is a combat mission of an individual aircraft, starting when the aircraft takes off and ending on its return. For example, one mission involving six aircraft would tally six sorties.
