Civil War: The Letters of Felix Voltz May 20, June 2 1865

It would seem that I forgot the last two letters written home by Felix Voltz–our young drummer boy who ran way from home to join the military. My apologies. I’ve included both letters in this post.

Welcome to the letters of Felix Voltz, a drummer boy in the 187th New York Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War. His letters to his family describe the rigors of Army life from February – June 1865. His family lived in Buffalo, New York and were upset with his enlistment. Transcriptions of his letters are provided. This collection is held in the Special Collections Department of the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. Read more
