47 Arrested After Alcohol Abuse Skit Goes Horribly Wrong

FORT DRUM — Shock and outrage swept through upstate New York on Thursday after 47 soldiers from the 10th Brigade Support Battalion BSB were arrested on assault charges during a unit-wide alcohol abuse prevention stand-down.

With the unit schedule to depart for Afghanistan soon, Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Rich Barry conducted the most important pre-deployment training soldiers can receive: Substance abuse and sexual assault prevention training.

Two Marines who stood in place and stopped a suicide truck bomber – BI

Apetition posted to the White House website is asking the president to award the nation’s highest award for valor to two Marines who stood in place and stopped a suicide truck bomber barreling towards their Iraqi checkpoint in 2008.

NOTE: This is an old article so the petition no longer exists, I just thought I’d share the story of two brave Marines. 

On Apr. 22, 2008, Cpl. Jonathan Yale and Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter — two Marines from different units who had never met before that day — had just begun their shift at an entry control point at a joint security station in Ramadi along with Iraqi policemen.

Minutes later, they were staring down a big blue truck packed with explosives. With this particular shred of hell bearing down on them, they stood their ground.

William Kyle Carpenter will become the Marine’s third MoH recipient — BI

Marine Corps veteran William Kyle Carpenter will become the Marine’s third Medal of Honor recipient since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Marine Corps Times writes, citing unnamed officials.

Carpenter, a medically retired corporal who’s 24 now, has been praised publicly since reports emerged that he risked his own life to save his friend.

The Alamo – Take No Prisoners

In December 1835, during Texas’ war for independence from Mexico, a group of Texan volunteer soldiers occupied the Alamo, a former Franciscan mission located near the present-day city of San Antonio. On February 23, 1836, a Mexican force numbering in the thousands and led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna began a siege of the fort. Though vastly outnumbered, the Alamo’s 200 defenders–commanded by James Bowie and William Travis and including the famed frontiersman Davy Crockett–held out courageously for 13 days before the Mexican invaders finally overpowered them. For Texans, the Battle of the Alamo became an enduring symbol of their heroic resistance to oppression and their struggle for independence, which they won later that year.

A Rich Woman Abandoned This Apartment In 1942. What They Just Found Inside Is Incredible. – The Meta Picture

Madame de Florian was a French socialite and actress who fled to the south of France during World War II. She kept her apartment in Paris on the Right Bank near the Opéra Garnier, though, in case she wanted to return. However, she never went back to it after the war. Since 1942, the apartment has been sitting untouched, until recently when an auctioneer entered her apartment. What he found was a time capsule, full of treasures.

The apartment was covered in dust, perfectly preserved.

Here’s the seventh  instalment from “The Best of British.” I’ve heard maybe a handful of these terms my entire life. No wonder my friends across the pond chuckle at me; we essentially speak the same the same language but geography has played a big part in the diversity there is between the two counties. Enjoy! 

• Mutt’s nuts – If something is described as being “the Mutt’s” then you’ll know it is fantastic or excellent. “The Mutt’s” is short for “The Mutt’s nuts” which is clearly another way of saying the “Dog’s Bollocks”! All clear now?

The Boston Massacre: 1770

On the cold, snowy night of March 5, 1770, a mob of American colonists gathers at the Customs House in Boston and begins taunting the British soldiers guarding the building. The protesters, who called themselves Patriots, were protesting the occupation of their city by British troops, who were sent to Boston in 1768 to enforce unpopular taxation measures passed by a British parliament that lacked American representation.
