Soldier Earns Medal Of Honor Using Video Game Skills

WASHINGTON — A soldier who used skills he learned playing video games to distinguish himself during the 2011 Battle of Waygal was awarded the Medal of Honor on Monday in a ceremony at The White House.

Bestowing the nation’s highest honor on Sgt. Trenton “Boz” Bosseletti, President Obama spoke of the then-specialist’s incredible heroics that helped beat back a fierce Taliban assault on his forward operating base. But wait, there’s more!

AFTERMATH

By U.S. Army First Lieutenant Sangjoon Han

Qasim was only a few paces from the road when he caught his first glimpse of the approaching vehicles. His heart jumped into his throat as he dropped the clump of soil he’d been examining. He knew something was about to happen. The town on the far side of the road was suddenly empty.

The three trucks drew steadily closer and were soon just a hundred meters away. From this distance Qasim could make out the faces of the individual soldiers. It was the closest that he’d ever come to them, he realized, and he was still studying their expressions when the explosion engulfed the last truck in the convoy.   continue,

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

― Winston Churchill

Roadwork: A Story of War

Here’s one for the road, no pun intended. This isn’t the type of story typical of the War Stories I’ve read but is worthy to be shared. I’m glad it was chosen to write about. It’s a glimpse into the senselessness of all of this…MESS and how it affects the people whose home is a war zone and has been for a very long time. Enjoy, good night.  Read more

Taking Chance

It’s the accounts [like the following] that get me right in the heart. They are their stories, told through their eyes It doesn’t get any better than first hand straight from the horses mouth account.

Bittersweet. I can see why this was made into an HBO movie.

Rest Easy Chance, you’re on the high ground now.  Read more
