The Story of Ruby, by Vietnam vet Mac Dorsey

This is a war story. It is not a story of blood and guts, but of puppies and love. I have always felt it would make a great Disney movie.

About November 1967, one of my NCOs, SSG Ketchel (a great American soldier who was twice wounded, the second time very seriously), was in Xuan Loc between field operations, and brought a stray dog back to our team for a mascot. Someone named her Ruby. Read more

Conversation with a Warrior: Paint it Black

American Soldiers, Vietnam War
American Soldiers, Vietnam War

I think the best part of being a part of the Google Plus family is the interaction I have with our veterans. Not only are they great to talk to but now and then, they talk to one another, and their world opens up just enough for us to have a little peek. This week I’m sharing a conversation on a post with the following video.

Warrior 1
Takes me back to my Asian vacation….:(

Warrior 2
Yeah, me too, but it fits several things now, tho.
Lmao… Quite the vacation wasn’t it…. Lol…
I’m back in the world now… Sorta…

Warrior 1
Left too much behind…

Warrior 2
I carried some back…

Warrior 1
My nights suck..

Warrior 2
I understand…
I don’t sleep well most any time…
Folks don’t even realize, there really are things that go bump in the nite… Some are horrid.

Warrior 1
Over there…I took back the night and was the bump in the night that gave them nightmares, complete with a price on my head and those of the rest of the 5th, My dreams are bad, but the night gives me peace as I pace…

Warrior 2
Like you, the night is my friend… Had a convo with a fine lady on here, +Anna J. Sasin , she is pretty good at advocating for vets and stuff… We were discussing the nights  because I wasn’t sleeping 2 days out of 3.
Not in the days either… It’s fucked up, but there it is… We have many similarities…
