Even if they are extremely important to the projection of military power across the globe, aircraft carriers and their flight decks are among the most dangerous working places on earth.

Planes and helicopters that operate from aircraft carriers and huge ships face space constraints, weight limits, and challenging weather conditions. And because they’re usually working in the open seas, planes can’t nearby divert to a terrestrial airfield if something does wrong. Something’s bound to go wrong on a carrier every now and then, in spite of of the crew’s training and skills.

The following video shows some famous and other lesser-known mishaps, close-calls and incidents aboard aircraft carriers and warships at sea.
